alpaca advice on shelters
Alpacas can share fields with other animals especially horses as they make great companions. You should really provide a three-sided shelter for any alpaca you intend to keep. It should have an open side on the east to south-side which works well for other types of livestock. The reason for this is they need shelter from the cold north winds and rain.
The space for al alpaca should be approximately 25-35 square feet per alpaca. You have to consider drainage so a concrete floor would be the best choice. You can incorporate drainage easier into this floor. Concrete floor is also easier to keep clean when mucking out.
Straw bedding is the preferred option as it will keep your alpaca cold in the winter months. Do not use wood shavings or sawdust as they tend to get in the fleece of the alpaca.
